So I walk out of the house today with the goal to get the first touch, halter and at least brush Spade. I go and gather all of my training equipment. Being that it is scattered to the seven winds since the last nine months have been given to pregnancy. I ran to the round pen to greet my new obsession and found this... I was mad and relieved at the same time. Manna had been pestering Spade and this was the result. Thank God it happened right as I pulled up and Spade didn't get out.
As I started working in the round pen with Spade Again Manna started running the fences outside the pen and Spade joined it. I finally slowed him down and he started using his brain and thinking. I paused dropped my shoulder and turned Spade slammed on the brakes and turned to walk up to me. That apparently got me excited because I lifted my eye and looked at him and he bolted. Another lap...and then stopped to investigate the gate leading to his run and stall. He found that it wasn't low enough. I knew it too. So he gets on his knees, as I hold my breath, and he crawls under it. As he stood up he bent the gate and continued to his stall. Needless to say I spent the rest of my evening repairing and proofing mine and Danial's handy work, as Spade curiously watched, and had no time for my goals I felt like a total rookie. Mary Sollberger had come out to watch the first day and we agreed that we are both going to learn a ton from this guy. If you think you know horses...a mustang will prove you wrong. Today I felt like a brand new horse owner all over again.
I was really frusterated. But tomorrow is another day. The bible says that Gods mercy is new every morning. Today I was glad that is the TRUTH. I plan on going out tomorrow and acting like it is a brand new training day. This time I will pray before I enter the pen.
