Come on already!

Feeling a little bit like I am in a holding pattern on both my mustangs today. I rode Spade yesterday morning and last night. We took him out early yesterday to go down the trails. We both have been working extra hard to get ready with the last few things that he needs to learn before we head to Fort Worth. I think we have four more weeks give or take. I wanted to give him a small break from all the training so I took him to do what he loves. The minute I got him out of the trailer and he saw where he was you could see that he was excited. I got on and Mary got on her horse and off we went. I thought it was so funny because Spade was so excited he was power walking to get down the trails. After about five minutes he started to settle but it was neat to see that he really enjoys something. The most exciting part of our two hour ride happened when Spade went to pass a small tree really close to the edge of the trail. I saw it coming. He didn't realize that my foot sticks out on his side. He rammed my leg into the tree. Thankfully not hard enough to hurt. When he did it pushed my spur into his side. Between the spur grabbing him and the shock that my leg didn't move, the situation spoked him and he jumped forward and hopped. I started laughing because he quickly realized he was kinda being a girl about he whole thing and stopped and looked at the tree like it was all the trees fault. I really enjoy riding him out on the trails.
Last night all I did was get his trotting a little more controlled and I started to lope his circles and get them more fluid. Every now and then he will drift toward "magnets" in the arena. I need to get him to where he is working way better. Today I took him to the vet to get his West Nile and get a check over. I was glad to hear that my vet really liked him.
This morning I decided that I would sleep in. I have really felt tired and I have worked morning and night to keep up with all the horses that I have to ride on a daily basis. The extra sleep helped me a ton. This afternoon I worked with Magpie. After thinking about the other day I felt like I would just go out to her and act like she was a normal horse. After I got her haltered I went to put the saddle pad on. I gave her a brief smell and went to toss it up there. She tried to bolt. I quickly grabbed my buggy whip and started to push her around the pen. I moved her until she was begging to stop. I walked her back up and every time I would approach her with the pad she would step backwards. In response I would back her three extra steps. It made her feel uncomfortable so she stopped wiggling while I was saddling her. After getting her pretty solid on the saddling I still felt like, even though I have sat on her before, she wasn't solid enough for me to trust her. I am only in the first two weeks so I am not pressured to go to fast. After I saddled her a few times I tied her to the blocker ring. She wasn't sure about what to do so she pulled a little at first but soon figured out that she wasn't suppose to move. After she kinda figured it out I pulled out the buggy whip and the rope and got her used to me moving around her. I was happy to see that kicking was never an option. She did really great.
