Well I have spent my whole day on the phone for Spade's benefit. I first called and bought some sand for the round pen. I am sure he is happy that he isn't sliding every where tonight. It takes a really skilled person or animal to walk on that hard packed clay. So at 1:00 I went down to the barn and helped the dump truck unload a beautiful load of white sand. I was so excited! I know it is just dirt but this allows the rain to drain through the sand. So that hours later I can ride on it without injury to my horse or myself. I was so proud of Spade because he just stood in his run and watched this massive dump truck unload all this sand. He didn't even budge. Then he hung out and watched as I spread the sand evenly around the pen with the tractor.
After dealing with the sand I called the tire place and asked for a few trash tractor tires to start making obstacles. They were so nice to give them to me. After that I started calling training friends to see what I might be doing wrong in Spade's training. I have heard a number of times that he is just a tough one. What I was looking for was a trainer that has dealt with a large number of mustangs hoping that they have run into problems similar to Spades. I hate to ask for help but I don't see him getting to where he needs to be quick enough by my trial and error ways. I need straight answers to what is going to work. I am suppose to be headed to a trainers house with him tomorrow. I am really nervous for multiple reasons. We will see what he has to say. But I am really excited to take Spade on his first trip as a domestic horse.
